TEAM BUILD OUT

Support Our Runners!

We are very exited to announce that later this year “TEAM BUILD OUT” will be the running to raise donations for the DeCesaris/Prout Cancer Foundation.   The team will be lead by Colin Stiles, Jacqueline Stiles, Matt Pellerito, and John Pellerito who will be competing in the Marine Corps Marathon, here in Washington D.C. on October 26, 2008.  We will be accepting pledges through this website and we greatly appreciate your time and support.   Each donation will bring us closer to our goal and the world will be closer to a cure for Cancer, so don’t hesitate because we need your help!

Thank you very much,

John Pellerito:

John was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1979, but has lived most of his life in Virginia.  He graduated from Colorado State in 2001, with a degree in Economics.  John met his future wife Kristy, when he was a freshman in Colorado.  He developed a love for the outdoors and spent most of his time skiing and snowboarding, when he was not studying. He returned to Virginia shortly after graduating to take a job opportunity with K. Hovnanian Homes, where he has worked for the past 6 years.  He is now the Vice President of Land Acquisition for the Virginia Region.  He recently had a baby girl, Sophia, who will soon be a year old.  He has become a very devoted father and family man.

John states, “I began running about 5 years ago, when a co-worker suggested that I join him in running the Baltimore Half Marathon.  I had never considered myself to be a runner, but I decided to give it a shot.  After the first few runs, I seriously considered backing out, because I was having such difficulty.  But, I continued with the training and my body slowly started to adjust.  I soon became comfortable and the pain subsided.  I ran my first big race in October 2003 and I absolutely loved it.  Ever since then I have been totally hooked.  In 2005, I competed in the New York City Marathon, which was a real thrill. Shortly after finishing my first marathon, I experience a death in my family as a result of Cancer.  This became a real eye-opener and it made me aware of how difficult it is to live and ultimately die, as a result of such a horrible disease, which really has no apparent cause or cure.  I was soon compelled to use my passion for running to focus attention on the fight against Cancer.  Last year I recruited a few close friends and I once again competed in the Baltimore Half Marathon, which we used to raise awareness and pledges of over $7,500 for the American Cancer Society.

Earlier this year, I attended the 6th Annual DeCesaris/Prout Golf Tournament and I was very inspired by the hard work and time that JoAnn and Elizabeth devoted towards raising money for their Cancer Foundation, which has been named in honor of Joanne’s father and Elizabeth’s mother.  I have been looking for a way to contribute to the Foundation and honor the memory of two very special people.  So, my teammates and I have decided to extend our goals and train for the Marine Corps Marathon in an effort to raise awareness for the fight against Cancer and we will be donating the pledges we raise to the DeCesaris/Prout Cancer Foundation.  Please join us in the fight against this horrible disease and come out to cheer on our team!”

Colin Stiles:

Born in Alexandria VA in 1978, Colin spent most of his school age years growing up in the mountains of Colorado, and continues to call Summit County Colorado his home.  A Junior Olympic ski racer in his youth, Colin left the mountains to pursue an education in Journalism and Film production at Colorado State University.  After several years in the production industry in New York City, Colin embarked on a new career path in real estate and homebuilding and joined the Land Acquisition team at K. Hovnanian Homes in Virginia nearly 3 years ago.

“It’s an honor to have the opportunity to team up with the DeCesaris/Prout Foundation to raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer.  I hope that our efforts serve as a symbol to others that despite the challenges and obstacles associated with cancer, it’s a cause that continues to require our attention and contribution.  I just hope Jackie doesn’t push our mile pace too fast for me!”

Jacqueline Stiles:

Born in Baltimore MD in 1982 Jacqueline attended the Baltimore School for the Arts, and began her career as a ballet dancer.  After graduating from School for the Arts, Jacqueline went on to study Modern Dance and Arts Management at Marymount Manhattan College.  Upon receiving her degree, Jacqueline was accepted into the world renowned Martha Graham School and Dance Company.  Jacqueline performed and toured both nationally and internationally for several years with the Martha Graham Ensemble until a knee injury forced an abrupt end to her dance career.  Jacqueline relocated to Northern Virginia in the spring of 2006 and just recently joined the K. Hovnanian accounts payable team.

“I never thought running a 5k, yet alone a marathon would be possible just 2 years after my knee surgery.  This will be a great personal achievement for me, of course. However, it is the close friends of mine that have been affected by cancer over the years yet have still managed to achieve similar goals that have provided me with the inspiration that I need to overcome my own physical challenge.   I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to help raise awareness for the fight against Cancer and to contribute towards the DeCesaris/Prout Foundation.”

Matt Pellerito:

Born in 82’ in Denver, CO, he grew up in the Northern Virginia area and attended Flint Hill School in Oakton, VA where he played lacrosse and enjoyed spending time with friends at various events. Graduating from Colorado State University in 06’ with a degree in Construction Management he became an avid skier and outdoorsman.  Returning back to his hometown of Fairfax, Virginia, he is learning the ropes at K. Hovnanian and working hard for the Landover Group Architecture department as Architectural Project Manager.

“I began running over a year ago, having always wanted to compete in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC.  This marathon will be special for many reasons.  It is my first marathon, it will be in my hometown, and we are running for a tremendous cause!  The DeCesaris/Prout Foundation holds a special place in our hearts as friends of the DeCesaris family.  Please support us and help spread the word about cancer prevention, awareness and the fight for a cure as we run the 33rd annual Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC on Oct. 26th 2008. Go Team Build-Out!”
